hemp and lime house
PROGRAM
Design for a family house
SITE
47 600 Nérac, France
DESCRIPTION
An overhang orientated towards the nicest view is slightly offset from the rectangular plan of the groundfloor. A subtle shift in the relationship between the volumes that reinforces the contemporary character of the ensemble.
Walls are made from shuttered hempcrete. This mixture of hemp fibres and lime is the key to the house's very high thermal, hygrometric and acoustic qualities. As a result, the house enjoys excellent indoor comfort in winter as well as in summer
